Como posso fazer com que o modem Huawei E160 funcione no 12.04?

Eu tenho problema com o e160 no Ubuntu 12.04. Não consigo configurar o gerenciador de rede e conectar porque o NM não pode ver o e160. Eu tentei muitas soluções sem resultado.

Apenas certifique-se de que não há código PIN no simcard!

Coloque seu simcard em qualquer celular primeiro, e verifique se você precisa colocar um código PIN. Se for esse o caso, faça-o e, em seguida, através das configurações do telefone móvel se livrar desse código PIN. Agora deve funcionar fora da caixa

Fwiw, eu tentei um hub USB diferente e os erros 108 e 71 foram embora.

Pesquisando no Linux USB 108 71, você recebe hits mencionando problemas relacionados à energia.

Eu tive menos problemas com uma boa PSU para o hub e, em seguida, sem problemas com a mesma PSU e hub diferente.
