Por que meu driver sem fio não foi detectado?

Ao digitar iwconfig , só recebo "sem extensões sem fio"

Como obtenho o driver sem fio do Ubuntu para ser detectado?

Tenho certeza de que você já sabe que o 8.04 não é mais compatível com o Desktop - no mínimo, tentaria 10.04. Isso tornará mais fácil diagnosticar se você tentar esta versão.

Se você optar por usar 8.04, porque o software mais recente tem demandas muito maiores para o seu hardware, eu recomendo strongmente o download do Lubuntu 11.04. É uma ótima distro leve.

Vou completar a resposta postando conselhos sobre como compilar o driver a partir do código-fonte.

Preparando seu sistema:

sudo aptitude install build-essential

Isso instalará todos os compiladores necessários.

Agora você precisa baixar os drivers sem fio mais recentes aqui usando o seguinte comando

wget http://wireless.kernel.org/download/compat-wireless-2.6/compat-wireless-2.6.tar.bz2

Agora você tem o arquivo compat-wireless-2.6.tar.bz2 você precisa extrair este arquivo usando o seguinte comando do terminal

sudo tar -jxvf compat-wireless-2.6.tar.bz2

Mova para o diretório extraído no terminal

cd directoryname

Execute os seguintes comandos

make
sudo make install
sudo make unload
sudo make load
