Eu tenho um enorme arquivo AVI. O player de vídeo (VLC) pára a cada 10 segundos porque o disco rígido não lê rápido o suficiente. (detalhes aqui)
Eu quero poder reproduzir este vídeo. Alguém conhece uma solução alternativa?
É possível carregar uma parte maior do vídeo na RAM, talvez? Existe uma maneira de fazer isso no VLC? Ou outro player de vídeo que pode fazer isso?

Infelizmente, não posso comentar ainda. Você pode executar o VLC com a opção -vvv :
vlc -vvv video.avi
e fornecer alguns resultados para que possamos entender melhor o que está acontecendo lá. Obrigado.

Você também pode tentar aumentar o valor do cache nas configurações dos VLCs. Vá para Media -> Open Multiple Files , em seguida, vá para a guia Arquivo e defina a caixa de seleção Show more options :
