Emitimos ps -e | grep mysqld depois disso, mas não obtive resultados.
Eu tentei tudo abaixo, mas o problema continua:
dpkg -S etc/mysql
aptitude purge mysql-server --purge-unused
sudo apt-get remove --purge mysql-server mysql-client mysql-common
sudo apt-get autoremove
sudo apt-get autoclean
sudo rm -rf /var/lib/mysql
sudo rm -rf /etc/mysql
sudo dpkg --configure -a
sudo apt-get update
Eu também tentei isso sem sorte:
sudo apt-get purge mysql-server mysql-client mysql-common mysql-client-5.5 mysql-server-5.5
sudo dpkg -i mysql-5.6.13-debian6.0-i686.deb
sudo apt-get install mysql-server
Como devo proceder?
É difícil ver em qual configuração seu sistema realmente está, com todos os comandos que você tentou. Você leu o /usr/share/doc/mysql-server-5.5/README.Debian como sugerido na primeira parte?
De qualquer forma, eu tentaria:
sudo dpkg-reconfigure mysql
Isto lhe dará a chance de inserir uma senha root para o MySQL (não confundir com linux root user.
Se for bem sucedido, para iniciar o MySQL:
sudo service mysql start
