Kernels removidos do Linux ainda estão sendo exibidos no GRUB

Question

Eu removi vários kernels obsoletos 3.16, mas um deles ainda está aparecendo no GRUB e o Ubuntu está inicializando usando esse kernel. Quando executo dpkg -l | grep linux-image-3.16.0-51-generic , a imagem não está listada. Quando eu executo sudo update-grub , ele encontra o Kernel em /boot e o adiciona à lista de Kernels a serem executados.

Posso simplesmente excluir este arquivo? Como faço para remover este kernel, para que o Ubuntu seja executado em 3.13?

Remova-os com sudo purge-old-kernels (de byobu package) e não com a mão.
E execute sudo apt-get autoremove posteriormente para remover pacotes obsoletos (cabeçalhos e imagens).
