Problemas de exibição - área de trabalho maior que a tela da TV

Question

Acabei de migrar meu HTPC do Windows 7 para o Ubuntu 16.04. A instalação correu bem, no entanto, com uma resolução de 1280x720 ou 1920x1080, a área de trabalho real é mais larga do que a tela da TV (principalmente nos lados esquerdo e direito, mas um pouco na parte superior e inferior também). Isso significa que vejo apenas uma parte muito pequena da barra de ferramentas no lado esquerdo (útil para iniciar aplicativos!). Anteriormente no Win7, a área de trabalho era perfeitamente ajustada na tela em 1280x720 e 1920x1080.

Um fato interessante é quando eu vou ao Painel de Controle do Ubuntu - > Configurações de exibição para alterar a resolução e as configurações de exibição, parece estar detectando minha tela (uma TV conectada via HDMI) como uma Samsung Electric Company 50 ”. Eu tenho uma TV de plasma Samsung de 42 ”. Talvez o EDID esteja sendo lido incorretamente? Eu tenho tentado testar novas modelines com xrandr e cdv, mas nada parece funcionar. Alguém pode ajudar a configurar isso corretamente?
