E foi fácil, e funciona muito bem com scanimage, XSane, etc ... mas apenas no modo simplex.
A saída de ajuda do scanimage é específica do meu dispositivo:

Se eu executar scanimage (ou XSane) com fonte configurada para qualquer um dos modos Duplex, isso não muda nada. Eu recebo a mesma digitalização de um lado de qualquer maneira. O Scanimage e o XSane não me dão nenhum erro - ele apenas faz uma varredura em um único lado, apesar da minha insistência em fazer o contrário.
Alguém tem alguma ideia do que observar para ver onde isso pode estar falhando? Essa coisa é perfeita para mim se eu conseguir fazer isso funcionar no modo duplex.
