Ubuntu 14.04 AWUS036H (v5) reinicializa continuamente - nunca tem sucesso completamente

Tenho o Ubuntu 14.04 em execução no Dell Precision M3800. Eu preciso usar duas placas wifi nesta máquina (longa história) e tive o Intel 7260 interno trabalhando ao lado de um Netgear..algo (chipset rtl8187) .. por algum tempo sem problemas.

Eu decidi substituir o Netgear por um AWUS036H porque ele usa o mesmo chipset e suporta uma antena auxiliar.

No entanto, ao conectar o AWUS036H, vejo isso no meu syslog:

Isso faz um loop indefinidamente e o dispositivo nunca se torna utilizável.

Eu removi completamente o Network Manager, isso não ajudou. Eu removi os 7260 drivers e os coloquei na blacklist, e isso não ajudou. Eu liguei a outra caixa 14.04, onde nenhuma outra placa wireless está presente, e funciona.

Alguma ideia? Eu estou meio perdido aqui, especialmente porque outro cartão que usa rtl8187 funciona bem neste laptop.
