DVD não detectado?

Quando insiro um DVD na minha unidade (em um laptop) usando o Kubuntu 12.04, o DVD não é detectado. A unidade leva o DVD, eu posso ouvi-lo mastigando por um tempo, e depois nada. Mesmo ejetar o DVD se torna um incômodo, eu preciso fazer isso no momento da inicialização, caso contrário, o sistema operacional não permitirá que eu ejete. O Kubuntu 12.04 costumava ler e montar os mesmos DVDs há apenas uma semana.

Editar: desde que eu possa inicializar a partir do CD, posso seguramente assumir que o problema não é um problema de hardware?

Como posso corrigir isso?

Para resolver o problema, você deve identificar o problema: é um problema difícil ou suave?

O seu leitor de DVD está conectado com USB (internamente) ou com pci? Você deve poder vê-lo na saída dada por lspci ou lsusb no terminal. Se não aparecer mais aqui, provavelmente haverá um problema de hardware.

A última coisa: como o seu computador é um laptop, você deve conseguir remover a unidade de DVD e inseri-la em outro laptop para testá-la. Isso pode ser um bom começo para saber se o problema está no software ou no hardware (que eu pessoalmente acho que é).

em um terminal do console, digite:

sudo eject /dev/cdrom2

Se estiver funcionando, seu problema se deve ao fato de que, por algum motivo, o cdrom é detectado como segundo cdrom e você está tendo um bug.

Você tem vários cdrom / dvdrom? ou um disco rígido usb?
