Eu atualizei o Ubuntu 17.04 para 17.10 hoje. Deu-me alguns erros durante a atualização mencionando imagens _helpimg.zip.dpkg-new , libreoffice e 3-4 mais. Por último, solicitou que fosse atualizado com erro.
Agora não consigo instalar / atualizar nada. Isso dá esse erro

Já experimentei os seguintes comandos
sudo apt-get purge libreoffice* openoffice*
Isso dá

Por isso, tentei instalá-lo manualmente

Mas nada funcionou.
Por fim, instalei o Synaptic Package Manager do Ubuntu Software Center, que é basicamente uma alternativa de GUI para apt-get . Deixou-me instalar todos os pacotes com os quais eu estava enfrentando dificuldades no APT. Então eu instalei o libreoffice, python3 e python3-minimal. Isso resolveu meu problema. Agora também posso instalar outros pacotes.
