OK, consegui. De alguma forma, o diretório "~ / .config / ubuntu-ui-toolkit" pertencia à raiz do usuário e à raiz do grupo, portanto, os aplicativos não podiam ler qual tema usar. Depois de reatribuir este diretório aos meus aplicativos de usuário inicie corretamente.
