A atualização do ubuntu requer a alteração do servidor de download

Então, meu Ubuntu 14.10 que eu instalei em um laptop recentemente começou a se comportar de maneira estranha.

Ele não consegue encontrar novas atualizações enquanto eu vejo que o meu desktop Ubuntu 14.10 recebe novas atualizações duas vezes por semana no mínimo.

Posso corrigir o problema alterando o servidor do qual quero fazer o download do meu atualizado, mas isso só funciona para uma atualização. Depois disso, tenho que fazer isso novamente para ver novas atualizações.

O que poderia ter dado errado aqui que tal comportamento existe na minha máquina?

Você verificou o arquivo /etc/apt/sources.list? Talvez você tenha que corrigir a lista de fontes.
