Reiniciar o MYSQL Community Server mostra su: Falha de autenticação

Question

Eu posso reiniciar o apache2 com sucesso

$  sudo service apache2 restart
* Restarting web server apache2 ... waiting  [ OK ]

mas quando eu reinicio o mysql ele continua aparecendo

$ sudo service mysql restart 
* Stopping MySQL Community Server 5.6.36
* MySQL Community Server 5.6.36 is already stopped
* Re-starting MySQL Community Server 5.6.36


 su: Authentication failure
