Falha ao instalar a atualização de segurança do Ubuntu "O sistema de pacotes está quebrado

Ao executar uma atualização de segurança para o Ubuntu 16.04 LTS, recebi a mensagem de erro acima. Executando o apt-get install -f retorna o seguinte:

Tente entrar: 

sudo apt update

no terminal para atualizar a lista de pacotes. Você também pode tentar: 

sudo apt --fix-broken install

para consertar pacotes quebrados; Agora tente atualizar o seu sistema e ele deve funcionar.
