Como posso fazer com que meu computador reproduza conteúdo 4k sem problemas?

O hardware deve ser capaz. Esse problema pode ser relacionado a hardware, configuração e multimídia, mas acho que ele se encaixa melhor aqui, se não, sinto muito. Minha máquina é uma Gigabyte BRIX S (GB-BKi3HA-7100) com a versão F4 do BIOS instalada. O Ubuntu está instalado em um SSD (nova instalação 17.04).

Eu baixei alguns vídeos de teste e a reprodução de vídeo em 1080 está um pouco instável e o 4K mal toca. Eu entendo que o processador Kaby-Lake nesta máquina não deve ter problemas para reproduzir vídeo HEVC de 10 bits, mas eu tenho sorte se ele jogar 1fps. Um NUC diferente com especificações quase idênticas não tem problema.

Eu tentei ligar o computador ao meu monitor e à minha TV e os resultados são os mesmos. A caixa de diálogo de drivers diz que os drivers proprietários estão em uso. Eu posso usar a tela normalmente e não há artefatos ou picadas ao mover janelas ao redor ou quando eu corro glxgears. O Youtube parece estar bem, exceto pelo tearing / choppiness que eu notei.

Eu tentei mpv media player, VLC, Gnome Mplayer, ... todos eles produzem resultados semelhantes. Note, eu também tenho o problema no firefox

Parece que você está usando os drivers do Mesa de código aberto, que, de acordo com o Tabela de extensões / limites GL do Mesa não oficialmente suporta o Kabylake ainda, então este é provavelmente o seu problema atual. Você pode esperar que o suporte se desenvolva mais no Linux ou use o Windows.
