Estou executando o Ubuntu Xenial (16.0.4 LTS) no meu laptop e no meu servidor. Eu reforcei a segurança no servidor usando as técnicas descritas aqui e aqui .
Eu posso usar o SSH do meu laptop para o servidor, usando a porta SSH padrão (22), mas quando tento qualquer outro número, a conexão expira:

Eu modifiquei e atualizei meu /etc/ssh/sshd_config e reiniciei o daemon SSH com êxito.
Por que não posso usar o SSH no servidor usando outro número de porta?

De alguns dos comentários que recebi, pensei que isso poderia ser um problema relacionado ao firewall, então eu entrei no servidor (da própria máquina) e digitei o seguinte:

Eu reiniciei o SSHD, e ainda recebo as mensagens de depuração de erro mostradas anteriormente nesta pergunta.
Então, o que devo fazer para conectar usando o SSH a um servidor remoto usando uma porta não padrão?

Após toda a experimentação acima, tentando resolver o problema sozinho, agora não consigo nem mesmo fazer login no servidor usando a porta 22 - FML!
