Acabei de converter uma máquina física em virtual, não tive nenhum problema, exceto na tela.
Agora a VM está usando o Ubuntu 12.04 LTS no VMWare Workstation 12.5 e não posso atualizá-lo (fazendo apt-get upgrade ).
A tela parece ser "Desconhecida" e a resolução disponível é:
Eu preciso trazê-lo para 1920x1080.
Eu tentei instalar o VMware Tools executando o vmware-install.pl do Vmware nativo deixando todos os padrões, mas sem sorte:
Durante a instalação, ele escreve:

Depois da reinicialização, o Vmware diz:
The Virtual machine could not be changed to the selected monitor layout.
If you just added a monitor to the host computer, you must power off and power on the virtual machine to use that monitor.
