Erro de Python ao tentar compilar a partir da origem

Question

Eu estou tentando compilar da fonte link do AWN no Xubuntu 16.04, mas quando eu executo ./configure eu recebo:

configure: error: 
  Could not link test program to Python. Maybe the main Python library has been
  installed in some non-standard library path. If so, pass it to configure,
  via the LDFLAGS environment variable.
  Example: ./configure LDFLAGS="-L/usr/non-standard-path/python/lib"

Eu corro sudo apt-get install python-dev mas ele disse que já é a versão do newset. O que devo fazer?
