Como adicionar ramificação git colorida ao meu prompt bash?

Eu encurtei meu prompt bash (usando o código na linha # 120 em este script pastebin ). Agora eu quero adicionar (colored) git branch ao prompt (abreviado), para que quando o branch tiver un-committed changes, ele seja mostrado em vermelho e se o diretório de trabalho estiver limpo (tenha nothingn to commit) então o branch é mostrado em verde.

Este Github Gist por srguiwiz mostra um prompt com cores baseadas no status da ramificação:

Você só precisa usar $(markup_git_branch $(git_branch)) no seu prompt, onde quer que você queira mostrar o status e a ramificação do commit.

Há uma pequena alteração no código original aqui: o 3[0;30m no final deve ser 3[0;0m para redefinir a cor do prompt. O primeiro define preto, o último redefine a formatação no texto.

O código de srguiwiz parece ter alguns problemas, jcgoble3 fez uma versão melhor :
