Não consigo descobrir o erro. Tanto quanto eu entendo isso não é devido a uma dependência em falta.

O problema não é automake package, é o repositório

sudo apt-get install automake

Instala a versão aclocal-1.4 , por isso você não consegue encontrar 1.5 (no Ubuntu 14,15)
