A vírgula final após o endereço do encaminhador de DNS foi o problema.
Eu configurei um PDC do Samba usando o seguinte guia: link
Optei por usar o servidor DNS Samba interno e especifiquei um encaminhador DNS de 8.8.8.8
Quando eu testo a funcionalidade do DNS de acordo com o guia, tudo parece bem:
user@myhost:~$ host -t SRV _ldap._tcp.ad.mydomain.com.au.
_ldap._tcp.ad.mydomain.com.au has SRV record 0 100 389 myhost.ad.mydomain.com.au.
user@myhost:~$ host -t SRV _kerberos._udp.ad.mydomain.com.au.
_kerberos._udp.ad.mydomain.com.au has SRV record 0 100 88 myhost.ad.mydomain.com.au.
user@myhost:~$ host -t A myhost.ad.mydomain.com.au.

Quando eu verifico um host externo, o DNS parece falhar:
