Eu atualizei do Ubuntu 15.04 64-bit para 15.10 64-bit. Depois, o kernel mostra uma versão mais antiga que a instalada:

3.13.0-57-generic
Mesmo que o 4.2 esteja instalado:

Eu reiniciei muitas vezes, ainda nada.
O que devo fazer para instalar corretamente o kernel? Está me impedindo de executar o iptables:
$ sudo iptables -L

iptables v1.4.21: can't initialize iptables table 'filter': Table does not exist (do you need to insmod?)
Perhaps iptables or your kernel needs to be upgraded.

Parece que o seu kernel 4.2 está corretamente instalado (como indica o ii do nome do pacote). Talvez você só precise atualizar sua configuração do grub para levar em conta o novo kernel?
Você tentou o comando sudo update-grub , seguido de uma reinicialização?
Acontece que isso é definitivamente um engano das outras perguntas. Eu tenho feito uma linha de comando reiniciar todo esse tempo e nada. Na verdade, a ciclagem de energia resolveu tudo bem.
Não me lembro de ver esse comportamento antes, mas talvez isso seja peculiar para DigitalOcean / VM ou algo assim.
