não pode pingar localhost

Eu não consigo pingar o host local

  ashish@ashishk:~$ ping localhost

Aqui está o meu arquivo host:

ashish@ashishk:~/chef-repo/.chef$ cat /etc/hosts
127.0.0.1   localhost
115.112.95.170    ashishk.example.com chef

Tenho solução:

ashish @ ashishk: ~ / chef-repo / .chef $ vim /etc/sysctl.conf

# Ignore Directed pings
net.ipv4.icmp_echo_ignore_all = 1

fez 0 funcionou
