Intel X4500 + 8 GB de RAM = sem mais MTRRs disponíveis e X congelados

Question

Eu tenho um problema consideravelmente estranho com o Ubuntu 14.04 LTS.

Tenho duas máquinas Lenovo T400 - ambas executando o BIOS .24 - com gráficos Intel integrados e dois conjuntos de módulos de 2x4 GB de RAM de diferentes marcas (Corsair e Samsung) que funcionam bem.

Quando eu instalar ou 8 GB de RAM na máquina , tenho dmesg reclamando sobre MTRR :

O que acontece a seguir é que depois de algum uso (digamos 4 a 48 horas) e em não circunstâncias particulares, o X está completamente congelado, com o resto da máquina permanecendo perfeitamente responsivo , o suficiente para eu ssh e ler dmesg :

Eu estou completamente perdido aqui.

O que poderia estar acontecendo, além de a loucura usual do X4500 , e como eu resolveria isso?

Solução:

apt-get install linux-generic-lts-vivid

Isso instala os drivers gráficos mais recentes do kernel e da Intel, que não parecem ser afetados.
