Estou tendo problemas estranhos após uma atualização de 14.04.5 para 16.04.1.

Por favor, me diga o que está acontecendo e como consertá-lo. Como eu disse no começo do post, ele foi atualizado para 16.04 com sucesso. Aqui está a saída de lsb_release -a :
