Monitor mostra 'sem sinal' após a instalação do driver da Nvidia (ubuntu 12.04 amd64)

Eu uso o Ubuntu 12.04 amd64 A última coisa que vejo antes desta mensagem é a tela inicial do boot do Ubuntu.

A configuração de hardware é:

  • Placa-mãe Gigabyte 970a-ud3
  • Processador AMD Phenom II X4 975
  • 8 GB de RAM
  • NVIDIA Corporation GT200 [GeForce GTX 260]

Eu tentei remover o xorg.conf, mas nada mudou. E agora não tenho ideia sobre o que devo fazer para que funcione.

Selecione o kernel ubuntu padrão (normalmente o de cima) e, em vez de pressionar enter, pressione E para editar.

Pressione a SETA PARA BAIXO até chegar à linha que começa com

linux /boot

e pressione as teclas END para posicionar o cursor no final da linha que normalmente termina com “quiet splash”.

Agora digite a opção adicional do kernel nomodeset (por favor, não faça o mesmo erro de digitação que eu fiz para esta captura de tela: -)
