Como posso usar um dongle usb 3G como uma antena sem fio para acessar a Internet?

Eu tenho um antigo dongle USB de 3G que usei para conectar-me à internet, o cartão SIM expirou há muitos anos, mas lembro que o dongle podia se conectar ao wifi.

Eu ressuscitei meu desktop antigo que não tem placa de rede sem fio, então minha pergunta é: posso me conectar a redes wifi com meu dongle usb? E se eu puder, como posso configurá-lo para ser uma antena em vez de um dongle 3g?

Sou razoavelmente novo e inexperiente e sou tão paciente.

Eu suponho que você esteja no Ubuntu. Configurar o seu dongle 3G para se conectar a uma rede WiFi, em muitos casos, requer o uso do software oficial que veio com o dongle.

Este software, novamente, em muitos casos, funciona apenas no Windows. Você pode instalar o software dongle no Ubuntu via Wine, mas eu não vejo tudo funcionando normalmente.

É, portanto, através da interface do software, que você pode manipular as configurações, como conectar-se a uma rede Wi-Fi ou até mesmo configurar o uso do slot para cartão SD dongle.

Você pode executar o software em um ambiente virtual do Windows para ver as configurações do software dongle, se ele suportar a conexão com o WiFi e se houver opções de configuração para isso.
