Não é possível conectar-se à Internet após limpar o histórico

Eu estava usando o laptop de um amigo com um sistema operacional Ubuntu 16. Me pediram para limpar os arquivos históricos e depois de navegar em alguns sites, usei:

cat /dev/null > ~/.bash_history 

comando que parece não funcionar (não me pediram para inserir qualquer senha). Eu então acredito que usei o comando abaixo, que me pediram para conecte a senha do laptop:

sudo gedit .bash_history 

Assim que eu pressionei enter, a conexão com a internet caiu. Tentei conectar a internet de volta, mas o computador não conseguiu localize qualquer sinal wifi.

Primeiro de tudo, você precisa verificar se o network-manager está funcionando bem ou não? Por favor, use o comando abaixo e veja o status.

service network-manager status

Se estiver tudo bem, deve mostrar running(active) status, caso contrário, você pode ver algum erro aqui.

Se o network-manager não estiver em execução, tente reiniciar o gerenciador de rede usando o comando abaixo:

service network-manager restart

(Você pode precisar de sudo access para executar este comando.)

Obrigado pela sua resposta. Segui seu conselho ontem e o gerente de rede estava de fato em execução (ativo). Houve uma linha de código informando uma "falha" quando executei o comando "nework-manager status": "falha ao enumerar os dispositivos oFono: GDBUS.Error: org.freedesktop.DBus.Error.Serv

Não tenho certeza se isso trará alguma clareza para o problema pendente, mas espero que isso ajude quando o computador informar que a conexão sem fio está "fora do alcance". Eu tentei ativar o Wi-Fi através de um botão de slide, mas o sistema não me permitiu fazer isso.

Infelizmente, estou realmente perdido em como resolver isso. Eu serei apreciado por qualquer sugestão / conselho adicional. Obrigado.
