Não consigo instalar o JRE e o JDK. Primeiro de tudo, eu não tentei instalar o JDK, mas suponho que, se eu fizesse, não funcionaria porque você precisa instalar o JRE.
Segundo, não consigo instalar o JRE, tenho seguido muitos tutoriais como o link e os comandos java e javac não funcionam. Ele diz, Command 'java' not found, but can be installed with: ... e não tenho certeza do que é openjdk . Por favor me ajude.
P.S. Eu também procurei perguntas do Ask, mas nenhuma delas ajudou.

editar / P.S. Para aqueles que pensam que isso é uma duplicata, você está enganado. Eu não estou usando uma máquina virtual, tentei e tentei novamente até conseguir, e aconteceu. Meu problema agora é que o JDK não foi instalado. Descobri isso quando instalei o NetBeans e nenhum JDK foi instalado, mas o JRE foi instalado.
O JDK inclui o JRE com ele, então você só precisa do JDK para ambos.
Sua sessão de terminal mostra que o download do instalador do Oracle Java 8 JDK foi corrompido ( sha256sum mismatch jdk-8u171-linux-x64.tar.gz ). Para corrigir o problema e instalar novamente:
sudo rm /var/cache/oracle-jdk8-installer/*.tar.gz
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get install --reinstall oracle-java8-installer
Se você instalar o jdk, não será necessário instalar o jre.
O que acontece se você acabou de fazer
sudo apt-get install default-jdk
