Durante a sessão de chat descobrimos que o OP tinha um pacote relacionado ao texlive do PPA do JonathonF :
$ dpkg -l | grep york

Nós removemos este pacote com
sudo apt purge libkpathsea6
E, em seguida, instalou o TeXLive
sudo apt install texlive-full
Eu tive problemas semelhantes e remover o pacote antigo libsynctex1 me ajudou a corrigir isso. Esqueci de verificar qual versão eu tinha instalado antes de removê-lo
sudo apt purge libsynctex1
sudo apt install texlive-full
