Como apagar um MBR sobrevivente e formatar um disco?

Estou tentando formatar um disco, mas seja o que for que eu tente depois de uma reinicialização, a partição antiga está sempre lá.

Eu tentei ver a partição com fdisk e formatar novamente usando mkfs.ext4

Parece que o disco está protegido e não consigo escrever nele.

Como posso limpar este disco?
