Eu tenho um sistema dual boot (Ubuntu 12.04 e Windows 8). Ambos os sistemas têm acesso a uma partição "DATA" do NTFS que contém todas as minhas imagens, documentos, músicas e alguns dados de aplicativos, como o Chrome e o Thunderbird Profiles, usados por ambos os sistemas operacionais.
Tudo estava funcionando bem no meu Ubuntu / Windows 7 dual boot, mas depois de atualizar para o Windows 8 estou tendo muitos problemas. Primeiro, às vezes, adiciono alguns arquivos do Ubuntu à minha partição de DATA, mas eles não aparecem no Windows. Às vezes, não consigo nem usar a partição de dados do Windows. Quando tento salvar um arquivo, aparece um erro "O diretório ou arquivo está corrompido ou ilegível". Eu preciso executar o checkdisk para consertá-lo, mas depois de algum tempo, aparece o mesmo erro.
Antes de atualizar para o Windows 8, também instalei um novo disco rígido e copiei os dados antigos usando o clonezilla (clone do disco completo).

Por padrão, o Windows 8 não desmonta corretamente os sistemas de arquivos no desligamento, parece. Eu vi isso mencionado em outros lugares no StackOverflow. (W.r.t para a partição de inicialização do UEFI!) Eles deram um método de linha de comando para desativá-lo, mas esse método de GUI é quase certamente a mesma coisa:
Estou surpreso que isso se aplicaria a sistemas de arquivos de dados separados, mas parece que vale a pena olhar.
Provavelmente, porque o seu win8 tem a "inicialização rápida" ativada. Assim, quando você desliga as janelas, ele salva as informações sobre o estado das partições montadas para reduzir o tempo da próxima inicialização. Então, quando você copia ou altera um arquivo com o Ubuntu, o Windows não irá reconhecê-lo devido ao estado anterior da partição.
