Eu acertei esse problema com um dos ppa s ( Geogebra ), alguns minutos atrás e fazer o seguinte resolveu o problema:
sudo rm -rf /var/lib/apt/lists/* && sudo apt-get update
Eu tentei todas as soluções e ainda tenho um problema.
Estou atrás de um proxy, por isso atualizei /etc/apt/apt.conf com minhas configurações de proxy e removi as listas antigas com sudo rm /var/lib/apt/lists/* -vf .
No entanto, ainda recebo o seguinte:
sudo apt-get update

Eu acertei esse problema com um dos ppa s ( Geogebra ), alguns minutos atrás e fazer o seguinte resolveu o problema:
sudo rm -rf /var/lib/apt/lists/* && sudo apt-get update
Parece que está em baixo. Eu gosto de usar o link para verificar se um site está inativo ou não.
Não tenho certeza se você está usando o OpenDNS, mas se você é que poderia ser o problema. Hoje (22/04/2014) parece haver um problema com a página de pesquisa do OpenDNS .
Eu estava recebendo vários erros de rede com sudo apt-get update , como:

Eu também estava vendo o 303 Redirect Loops com diversos URLs, como:

Para corrigir isso, eu mudei /etc/resolv.conf para usar o GoogleDNS:
nameserver 8.8.8.8
nameserver 8.8.4.4
Anteriormente, estava usando o OpenDNS (por exemplo, nameserver 208.67.222.222 & nameserver 208.67.220.220 )
Além de alterar o servidor para old-releases.ubuntu.com em vez de cc.archives.ubuntu.com, você precisa alterar o protocolo de http simples para https criptografado. Trabalhei para mim!
BTW, você pode usar "sed" para fazer as duas substituições automaticamente.
