No entanto, meu sistema está atualizado; A execução de sudo apt-get update; sudo apt-get upgrade não recebe atualizações para o Chrome.
Eu li que o Google parou de oferecer suporte ao Chrome em Linux de 32 bits, mas meu sistema é de 64 bits, então não espero que isso seja um problema.

Depois de baixá-lo, você deve instalá-lo clicando duas vezes no arquivo .deb ou executando
sudo dpkg -i /path/to/local/chrome.deb
