O GIMP falha imediatamente após o início

Ao iniciar o GIMP, o programa carrega completamente e exibe a janela principal e as janelas laterais. Imediatamente depois, o programa falha sem mensagem de erro. Não "Desculpe, o programa GIMP fechou inesperadamente", "Desculpe, o Ubuntu experimentou um erro interno." ou qualquer outra mensagem desse tipo aparece. Quando executado a partir do terminal, o GIMP envia o seguinte:

Eu tentei reinstalar o GIMP e o Python, e mudar meu tema de shell do GNOME 3 do Numix para o Radiance, o que não ajudou. Eu também tentei rm -r .gimp-2.8 , o que não ajudou.

Como posso iniciar o GIMP?

EDIT: Eu instalei o GIMP com sudo apt-get install gimp e tentei reinstalar com sudo apt-get remove gimp & sudo apt-get install gimp e sudo apt-get install --reinstall gimp .

Existe um problema conhecido com o gimp Xenial e o gegl-0.3 que produz esses erros e talvez alguma da instabilidade que você está vendo:

• Bug 770848 - Gimp 2.8.X com compilações gegl-0.3, mas causa muitos avisos de inicialização
• Launchpad - Lotes de GEGL-gegl-operation.c-WARNING ao iniciar o gimp

Você terá que viver com isso, eu suspeito que as alternativas de recompilação contra uma versão menor gegl pareçam um pouco complicadas.

Se a sua máquina não for usada para trabalho de produção e você quiser viver no limite do sangramento, existe um PPA para a versão de desenvolvimento do gimp que não mostra este erro.

Aviso: esta versão do gimp nem sempre funciona e não deve ser usada em uma máquina de produção !!!

Adicione o PPA e o novo gimp da seguinte forma:

sudo add-apt-repository ppa:otto-kesselgulasch/gimp-edge
sudo apt-get update && sudo apt-get install gimp

A versão do gimp instalada desta maneira não tem os erros do terminal do Crazy e tem sido bastante estável até o momento no meu sistema:

Duas outras notas:

1. Se você achar que esta iteração específica no ciclo de desenvolvimento é bastante estável (e esta tem sido a minha experiência até agora) talvez pin esta versão e evite mais atualizações:

   sudo apt-mark hold gimp
   

2. Se você seguir esse caminho, gaste um pouco de tempo, como eu fiz, para classificar os temas iniciais escuros e de ícones. Os temas de abertura não vendem bem o gimp:).
