“Limpar histórico recente” desabilitado no Ubuntu Firefox

Estou usando o Firefox 3.5.9 no Ubuntu 9.10. O item de menu "Limpar histórico recente" no menu Ferramentas está em cinza. Eu tentei lançar o Firefox usando o sudo na linha de comando, mas sem sorte. O que dá?

Found problem. Under Privacy the box was checked with Always Start Firefox in a Private Browsing Session. [...] Unchecked it and the tabs came back.
