não pode se conectar com o huawei e173 após a atualização para o 12.10 usando o gerenciador de rede

Desde a atualização de 12.04 para 12.10, não consigo me conectar à Internet usando o modem de banda larga móvel Huawei e173. Funcionou anteriormente sem problemas e agora parece ser devidamente reconhecido (pelo menos suas conexões aparecem no applet gerenciador de rede), e depois de selecionar a conexão manualmente, inicia o procedimento de conexão. Após cerca de 20 segundos, volta ao estado desconectado.

Depois de navegar na internet, descobri que o gerenciador de rede está em execução com:

NM_PPP_DEBUG=1 /usr/sbin/NetworkManager --no-daemon

Depois de inserir o modem, recebo:

onde "falha ao procurar índice da interface" parece ser suspeito.

Eu tentei rebaixar o gerenciador de rede, mas falhei devido a muitas dependências.

Alguém pode me indicar uma solução ou dizer o que devo fazer para investigar o problema?

Isso aconteceu devido a bugs (ou bug) no ModemManager 0.6.0.0 que acompanha o Ubuntu 12.10. Você pode remover esta versão do gerenciador de modem e fazer o downgrade para 0.5.2.

Para verificar a versão do gerenciador de modem: dpkg -s modemmanager

faça o download da versão 0.5.2: link 64 --- i386
