Acabei de encontrar o link e modifiquei o código para me livrar do porco 100% do CPU; parece funcionar bem no Ubuntu 14.04 - basta executá-lo a partir de um terminal, desenhar sua área de retângulo e o programa sairá, imprimindo as coordenadas no terminal:
