Adaptador de rede Ethernet Intel não funciona - Ubuntu 16.04

Acabei de instalar um novo Ubuntu 16.04 LTS em um novo computador desktop e ele não se conectará à Internet por meio de uma conexão com fio.

Eu já vi várias respostas para perguntas semelhantes, por exemplo em:

E vários outros, mas nenhuma das soluções propostas funcionou para mim. Eu tenho uma placa-mãe ASUS Z270 e saídas de diagnósticos padrão são:

Uma solução para o problema que encontrei enquanto resolvia outra coisa - Instalar o Ubuntu 16.10 faz o truque.

Eu vi que para outro modelo de computador, o Intel NUC, era recomendado usar o Ubuntu 16.10 porque o 16.04 não suporta muito bem os CPUs do Kaby Lake:

Então eu verifiquei e este computador também tem i7 7700K que é da série Kaby Lake, ou seja, não funciona bem com o Ubuntu 16.04.

Instalado 16.10 e tudo funcionou corretamente.
