Como posso acessar a banda larga móvel do meu pendrive?

Não consigo acessar a internet usando meu modem USB no meu laptop. Enquanto eu posso acessar a internet do meu PC. Ambos estão executando o Ubuntu 12.04.

O que posso fazer para detectar o problema?

Os modems ZTE 3G, por vezes, vêm como "mídia dupla", eles agem como um CD ligado.

Aqui está o que funciona para mim: (melhor abrir duas janelas de terminal)

Em um terminal, digite tailf /var/log/syslog para ver o que acontece. no outro tipo eject sr1 (que deve desabilitar o modo CD e fazer o sistema reconhecê-lo como modem).

Depois de algum tempo (vejo quando a atividade no syslog fica lenta novamente), consigo usar o network-manager para se conectar ao meu provedor 3G.
