Por que o urllib2 não funciona para mim?

Eu instalei 3 scripts Python diferentes na minha máquina de 32 bits do Ubuntu 10.04 com o python 2.6.5.

Todos usam o urllib2 e sempre recebo este erro:

urllib2.URLError: Por quê?

Estou em casa e estou usando um roteador e um ponto de acesso: -. No entanto, notei que o Firefox não funciona para mim. Mas chrome, synaptic, etc funciona.

um teste que você pode tentar primeiro é isolar a rede.

Acenda python -m SimpleHTTPServer , ele cria um servidor da Web simples no diretório atual, atendendo na porta 8000.

Então você pode testar:

>>> import urllib2
>>> response = urllib2.urlopen("http://localhost:8000")
>>> response.msg
'OK'

Isso permitirá que você saiba se seu problema está em python, ou se você está tendo problemas de rede (o que eu suspeito ser o caso).
