[HELP] Ubuntu 16.04 vs OpenVPN e Google Authenticator

Eu tentei procurar uma solução para o meu problema, mas não consegui encontrar nenhuma, além de "é um bug no OpenVPN".

Essencialmente, o problema é este: OpenVPN w. O Google Authenticator parece não funcionar no Ubuntu 16.04. Uma teoria que eu li em algum lugar, é que isso é devido ao mascaramento que está sendo feito agora, usando o símbolo *. Não faço ideia se este é o caso, mas o problema é o seguinte:

Só para responder à pergunta óbvia: Sim, eu fiz absolutamente, de forma positiva, consideravelmente, tremendamente certo de que estou usando números e que meu teclado está na verdade emitindo números: P

O sistema operacional é uma instalação totalmente nova.
