Eu achei isso muito útil e me ajudou a recuperar meu som. Não se esqueça de executar sudo update-grub
antes de cada reinicialização.
Eu sou novo no Linux, mas realmente amo Elementary por sua simplicidade. Depois de perceber que meu som era muito ruim no Elementary, comparado ao Windows 8.1, tentei atualizar os drivers de som. Acabei fazendo o download de um de aqui mas depois de uma reinicialização, meu ícone de som desapareceu da barra de ferramentas e nenhum som pode ser ouvido. Na configuração > som eu vejo "Saída dummy" e executando alsamixer

. Eu pesquisei sem sucesso e muitos sugerem sudo alsa force-reload
, mas isso retorna

Eu perdi a esperança e espero que alguém aqui possa ajudar. Eu desinstalei o driver que eu baixei anteriormente do link acima (talvez haja peças deixadas para trás?) E purged reinstalado alsa-base e pulseaudio mas ainda não consigo ver o ícone de som ou reproduzir sons.
Qualquer ajuda é muito apreciada.

Isso recarregou esses módulos. Apenas carregou no terminal e eis que tudo foi reconhecido novamente. O erro, pelo que pude fazer, é que os módulos estão lá, mas não são injetados no kernel. Eu puxei isto de olhar para a página de compilação de ALSA e eu simplesmente completei a etapa final de carregar nos módulos. Muito legal eu resolvi isso sozinho. Espero que isso ajude os outros
