Em 11,10, minha resolução máxima permitida é de 1024x768, enquanto meu monitor suporta 1280x800 no Windows.

Eu notei que sua resolução máxima mostrada no xrandr estava limitada a 1024x768. Talvez PRIMEIRO você pode seguir o wiki abaixo e tentar forçar X a reconhecer a RAM de vídeo.

Por acaso tive esse problema durante a depuração da minha ponte de hera. Acho que esse pode ser o motivo do erro "Falha ao obter o tamanho do gama".
