Seu script autogen.sh
está falhando porque você precisa instalar o pacote libtool
que fornece o utilitário libtoolize
:
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get install libtool
E tente novamente ./autogen.sh --prefix $PREFIX

instale o pkg-config:
sudo apt-get install pkg-config

./configure && make
