Existe esse modo secundário do emacs chamado "auto-revert-mode" que reverte automaticamente o buffer do arquivo a cada 5 segundos.
No meu arquivo .emacs eu só tenho a linha (auto-revert-mode 1) e nada mais, mas sempre que eu inicio uma sessão do emacs eu ainda tenho que ativá-la manualmente.
O que está acontecendo aqui? Por que não consigo ativar o modo de reversão automática na inicialização?

This is a minor mode that affects only the current buffer.
Use 'global-auto-revert-mode' to automatically revert all buffers.
Use 'auto-revert-tail-mode' if you know that the file will only grow
without being changed in the part that is already in the buffer.
Então você deve usar global-auto-revert-mode para o seu propósito.
