IPsec Tunnel Mode - o ping não funciona após 15 minutos sem tráfego

Eu tenho uma conexão IPsec (modo de encapsulamento) que após cerca de 15 minutos sem tráfego, o ping pára de funcionar e só pode ser retomado se o ping for iniciado do outro lado.

A configuração é feita de dois roteadores que usam o Linux Openswan 1.5.13-6-g96f6187-dirty (klips)

Abaixo estão as configurações e os logs quando está funcionando e quando não está.

Sou bastante novo no IPsec. Eu tentei habilitar rekey e comprimir, mas sem sorte. O iptables parece idêntico quando o ping funciona e pára de funcionar.

Nós resolvemos isso adicionando um keepalive em cada dispositivo apontando para o IP da LAN do dispositivo remoto, a cada 5 minutos. Soluções alternativas para o Dem! :)
