Quando eu uso o comando dd ele não grava dados no pendrive

Alguém por favor pode me ajudar a resolver esse problema?

Em algum momento, quando eu faço o comando dd para um pendrive, ele termina muito rapidamente, sem gravar dados em USB. Descobri que, na verdade, está escrevendo para /dev/sdb , que é um arquivo e não um dispositivo nesses casos, mas fdisk out aponta para /dev/sdb apenas.
