Eu encontro o erro no título acima sempre que tento executar o sudo apt-get e não consigo descobrir o porquê. Por exemplo:

Além disso: dpkg --verify python-minimal retorna nada

Vários pacotes estão tentando executar o programa pycompile durante sua execução. dpkg-query -S */pycompile nos informa que pycompile é um programa que faz parte do pacote python-minimal . O Apt não reclama do pacote que faltava, mas parece que o programa está faltando mesmo assim. Você pode restaurar o pacote corrompido com:

sudo apt-get install -f --reinstall python-minimal

Se o Apt reclamar que não pode reinstalar esse pacote (por exemplo, pacotes parcialmente instalados), precisamos ir mais fundo e fazer o download e instalar o pacote manualmente:

cd /tmp
apt-get download python-minimal
sudo dpkg -i python-minimal_*.deb
sudo apt-get install -f
