Como restaurar o Windows 7 se o erro 0x8000ffff aparecer? Não é possível inicializar no sistema [duplicado]

Eu tenho um computador com o Windows 7. Quando eu inicializo, recebo a animação inicial usual, o LED do disco rígido pisca, mas a tela fica preta e nada mais acontece. Sem som, por isso atividade, sem alterações quando pressiono qualquer tecla ou os botões do mouse.

Quando eu inicio o computador com um sistema live Fedora 23 Linux a partir do pendrive, ele não tem problemas, tudo funciona de imediato.

Quando inicio a restauração do sistema do Windows (tenho testet vários pontos de restauração), são necessários alguns minutos com a atividade do LED de disco rígido, mas aparece um erro: 0x8000ffff e algum texto, que é um erro não especificado. Não é útil.

Eu sou não muito experiente com sistemas Windows recentes, mas muito experiente com Linux e Mac OS X. Então eu preciso de ajuda aqui.

Agora, a pergunta é: Qual é a melhor e mais rápida maneira de fazer o computador voltar a funcionar com o antigo sistema Windows 7? Quando uso o CD de instalação do Windows 7, existe uma maneira de instalá-lo no sistema antigo? Isso poderia funcionar? O software instalado funcionará (ou pelo menos a maior parte)? Eu não testei, pois não quero destruir nada, até saber qual é a melhor abordagem.

A resposta mais completa para minha pergunta de novato parece ser essa, que infelizmente me diz que preciso inicializar no meu sistema Windows 7 ( "deve estar logado no Windows 7 em uma conta de administrador para poder para fazer uma instalação de reparo "). Infelizmente isso não é possível no meu caso.

You may lose your custom themes due to not having permisions set on the old themes. Go to the hidden themes folder at C:/Users/(User-Name)/AppData/Local/Microsoft/Windows/Themes, then Take Ownership of the themes folder and you will now have all your themes back.
It has been reported that you may also lose your Media Center gadget after doing the repair install.
Windows Updates will need to be checked and reinstalled again.

You can only do a repair install with the same edition Windows 7 installation disc for the same edition of Windows 7 that you have installed.
You cannot use a OEM Windows 7 "Factory" Restore/Recovery type of installation disc that came with or created from a store bought computer to do a repair install with. These can only be used do a clean install instead.

Atualizar

Por fim, o que foi recomendado em esta resposta + recuperou meus arquivos do diretório Windows.old . Eu tive que instalar todo o software novamente. Mas eu poderia pelo menos recuperar as configurações da pasta %APPDATA% .
